Julia Behrends has a passion for design, color and jewelry. The award-winning designer was educated in architecture and design with formal fine art training. Julia received her Bachelors of Science Degree from Southern Illinois University and earned a Graduate Certificate in Business from Harvard University. Early in her career she combined her experiences with architecture, business, and technology by working in sales management and technical marketing roles selling architectural applications for several Fortune 500 CAD/CAM corporations.
Driven by a passion for design, gemstones and jewelry, Julia pursued studies in jewelry design and gemology at the Gemological Institute of America. While mastering her metalsmithing skills at the prestigious North Bennett Street School in Boston and Metalwerx School & Studio Julia launched JULIA BEHRENDS DESIGN.

The Women’s Jewelry Association recognized Julia’s unique artistry when they awarded her the DIVA Design Award. Since then she has received multiple JCK Jewelers Choice Awards, MJSA Vision Award and has been honored with the prestigious Spectrum Award from the American Gem Trade Association for her inventive use of colored gemstones. Julia’s designs have been published in several books, featured in a variety of national trade magazines (JCK, Modern Jeweler, Colored Stone, IDEX, Prism), and were seen in an “E!” television segment presenting jewelry for the Emmys.
